“Once again it
has been proved that CBI is an instrument in the hands of govt. to settle its
political scores. I have been boldly saying so since 1993, when I exposed the
Jain Hawala Case. It is unfortunate that the 1998 SC judgement (Vineet Narain
Vs. Union of India) in this case, which gave clear directions for the autonomy
of CBI under CVC and not under Govt control has not been implemented by the
successive governments. It should now be accepted by the nation that CBI is not
an independent agency to investigate high profile cases. Hence, it is an
opportunity for the opposition parties and the vigilant section of media to
come up with an alternate model of creating a new agency which can function
without fear, prejudice, pressure or temptations. There should be a national
debate on such alternative, if available, so to pressurize the govt. to act.”
